Morning Routine

Instructions: Describe your morning routine. Do you drink coffee? Take your car to get gas? Watch TV?

Eugene's submission: Average Rating:
I like keeping late hours, in a word, I am a night owl. But I must go to my job when weekdays come. And I must do it in an early morning. If you only knew how it is difficult for me! But it just can't be helped.
So, let’s imagine one weekday, I must go to job.
I hear the alarm clock, this hateful sound. I try to open my eyes, but I can’t. My hands are behind my head. The alarm clock doesn’t stop and my mind understands – it is time. I open my eyes, damn my job and get up. I go to the bathroom slowly, take a shower and brush the teeth automatically. I have my breakfast and I start to wear. It is a really difficult work. The hardest part of this is to find the second sock, some money and keys from the flat.
Well, I’m ready. Oh, gosh! I have remembered to polish my shoes! I do it, and I’m really ready. I go to the bus stop, switch on my player and wait for a bus.
These are my morning routines in a weekday.

Great exercise, and a lot of fun to correct.

    You can also say...

I like staying up in the late hours.

But I must go to my job on the weekdays and I have to go early in the morning.

If you only knew how difficult it is for me, but there is nothing I can do about it.

    And brush my teeth automatically.

I have my breakfast then I start to get dressed.

It is a really difficult task.

You did so well! There are a lot of different ways to write this paragraph, I just gave you more options. Mostly how we usually write and speak. But the words you wrote were correct as well. :-)

Keep up the great work my friend!

Well done your writing skills are fabulous. You have really improved your writing. I understand what you mean in your writing but just a few errors which have been corrected above. Your English will improve the more you hear native speakers. Tremendous effort, my friend :)

You are doing excellent!  No problem understanding you, just a few small grammatical things.

    1.  I like keeping late hours; in a word, I am a night owl.  (These are 2 complete thoughts, so we have to separate into 2 sentences, or use a semi-color [;])

    2.  And I must go in early in the morning.

    3.  If you only knew how difficult it is for me!  (Your first version was OK, but this is better.)

    4.  So, let’s imagine one weekday, I must go to work.

    5.  I hear the alarm clock, this hateful sound. I try to open my eyes, but I can’t. My hands are behind my head. The alarm clock doesn’t stop and my mind understands – it is time.  (No problem here, I just wanted to say that this sound very nice - like prose, like really telling a story.  Like a writer!)

    6.  I open my eyes, damn my job and get up.  (Is this an exclaimation or a fact?  Example:  I open my eyes, (Damn my job!), and get up.  OR:  I open my eyes, damn (curse) my job, and get up.  I would use another comma [,] but the rules are always changing.)

    7.  I go to the bathroom slowly, take a shower and brush the teeth automatically.  (I am being extra-picky because your writing is so good, it's like a storyteller!  Slowly - here, it makes the reader think maybe what you "do" in the bathroom is slow.  But if you mean that you 'walk' to the bathroom slowly, it might be better to say:  "Slowly I go(walk) to the bathroom...")

    8.  I have my breakfast and I start to dress/get dressed.  (Example:  I am wearing jeans today.  In the morning, I get dressed before I go to work.)

    9.  It is a really difficult work. (OR:  It is a really difficult job.  In your sentence, "work" is a collective noun for all the things you do at work, but job is singular and it refers to specifically your KIND of work or your role at work.)

    (to be continued...)

    10.  The hardest part of this is to find my other sock, some money and the keys to the flat.

    11.  I go to the bus stop, switch on my player and wait for the bus.  (We usually name the 'player' - is it an ipod?  MP3player?  CD player?  Also, because you take this bus or route every day, we woud say 'the' bus.  It's *the* bus to go to work, rather than 'a' bus to anywhere.)

    12.  These are my morning routines on a weekday.

    Excellent writing!  You're a star!  (o:

I must go to work during the week. And I must go early in the moring. If you only knew how difficult it was for me! So, let's imagine that one day I have to go to work. I hear the alarm clock, and it's a hateful sound. I have my breakfast and start to get dressed. It is a difficult job, the hardest part is to find the second sock, money, and my keys. I almost forgot to polish my shoes; I do it and now I'm really ready.
