Running Errands
Instructions:
Write about a set of errands you have to do. Where do you need to go? When? With who?
I have to do some shopping today and my list is long. First I need to buy some fruits and vegetables cause my mum has a bad cold. I want to cook a soup for her this evening. The fruits are good for her immune system so hopefully she will get well soon.
The next things I need to buy are a new notebook, a calculator and some pencils. School started here on monday and I can't study without my learning materials. Especially when I have my math classes... ;)

An Excellent exercise, Julia! Very well written! I do hope that your Mum recovers soon! Just watch what you put in her soup!!!
Good luck with your Maths!
Geoff.
Excellent, Julia!
The days of the week, and the months of the year start with capital letters: Monday, Tuesday, January, May, etc. Best Regards, Lachifa :-)
Hi Arvonius and Lachifa!
I am truly grateful for your help. Thank you so much! ;)
bye
Julia
If you're writing a note, you can use " 'cuz" as an abreviation of "because"...but following the proper grammar rules, it's better you write it all!
Week days are always written in CAPS.: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...
Ich hoffe deine Mutter ist krank nicht!
Es ist sehr gut! Weite so, meine Deutsche Leherin!
Bist spät!
If you were to say (cause) to somebody you would sound like a native english speaker. (at least where I come from) but it's not something people write.
Really good!
Ryan
Very good! Sorry I didn't get to it sooner... I see everything is corrected already but the only other issue I see with it is this part "The next things I need to buy," while it's clear what you mean, to me it sounds a little ackward.
Perhaps "Next, I will buy..." or "The next few things I will buy are..."
I think what gets me is that usually it would be said as "The next thing I will buy is..." which isn't plural... but I'm not going to say it's for sure wrong.
You did a great job! Have a great day and a happy new year!
Sterling
Hallo Julia,
ausgezeichnet, wie gewöhnlich. Ich wünsche deiner Mum eine gute Besserung. Alles gute dir und deiner Familie.
Be warned, Julia, I am going to be really critical of your submission. Please don't be angry with me.
First I need to buy... Unfortunately, unlike German, adverbs are different from adjectives in English. So this sentance should start with 'Firstly'. I think a lot of native speakers make this mistake.
...some fruits and vegetables... This is the above you will be asked to see, later. The noun 'fruit' has two possible plurals: 'fruits' and 'fruit'. In this phrase, the one to choose is 'fruit'. Indeed, in general' 'fruit' is more common than 'fruits' (see below).
...cause my mum has... The word 'cause' is spoken English, rather than written English.
I want to cook a soup... Even I, as a native speaker, can't say why, but it should be: 'I want to cook soup for her.' I'm glad I don't have to learn English as a second language! Indeed, it appears I haven't even learnt it as a first language!
The fruits are good for her... This is the below you were asked to see, earlier. I would have written: 'Fruit is good for her...' Here, the word 'fruit' isn't plural, although it can be plural (see above).
... so hopefully, she will get well soon. I think you meant '...so I hope she will get well soon.' That is, unless you meant she was doing the hoping and not you. Once again, a lot of native speakers make this mistake.
School started on monday... Monday is one of the German nouns in English; it starts with a capital letter.
...when I have my math classes... native Americans say 'math classes' whereas English native speakers say 'maths classes'. ;-)
Once again, I have been really critical, Julia. I think there is only one important error in this submission, the Monday one.
PS: I would have written this comment in German. Only I couldn't. :-(
Thank you very much CyberSmudger. I'm not angry with you, I'm glad that you've been critical. Otherwise I wouldn't learn how to use the grammar. ;)
(Hopefully the last sentence makes sense...)
