Giving and Receiving

Instructions: Describe a present you have received. What was it? Who did you get it from? Is there something you gave in return?

Father’s day (or Fathers’ day) is commemorated on the second Sunday of August in my country. I know it is on the third Sunday of June in the United Kingdom, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, many countries from Latin America. Last Father’s day I received sneakers from my daughter. I didn’t give her anything in that occasion because she is not father, of course, although is mother. Well, I think I have already explained a lot about that date, then tell me… is my text correct, or no? Ah? The sneakers? They are a good pair... with them I can go to China, Spain or Russia, yeah! If I have enough money for the tickets...

    Oi amigo :-)

It should be Fathers' day (honouring fathers - plural noun) but Father's day or Fathers day is used commonly.

I think English men put 'the time of the event' at the end of the sentence-In my country the Father’s day (or Fathers’ day) is commemorated on the second Sunday in August?

...she is not a father, of course, she is a mother

They are a good pair... With them, I can go to China...

Your text is correct Toni!   I had never seen the spelling Fathers' Day!  Wikipedia confirms that Fathers' Day is correct but Father's Day is preferred usage.  So I learned something new early this morning.  Thanks for that.

About your daughter.  I would use "... I didn't give her anything on that occasion".

The phrase "although is mother" isn't clear.  Did you mean  although she is a mother

    Hasta pronto

Antonio, I will try to correct your text acording to my knowdage(but sometimes don't believe me).

    1. Father's Day is better

2.be commemorated--you are totally right(now I'm learning this word from you)---just tell you, I usually use observe to express celebrating a festival

3.I know it is on the third Sunday of June in the United Kingdom, the United States, Hong Kong, Japanand many countries from Latin America(leave out comma, add and).

4,sneakers is right.  However, if it were me, I would write a pair of sneakers

5because she is not father, of course, although is mother.---No estoy segura de esa frase.

I should have read previous comment before posting my own because I didn't really say anything new.  But I loved Alexandra's phrase I think Englishmen put the time before the event.  It has all sorts of connotations like the line in Joe Cocker's song:  "only mad dogs and englishmen go out in the noonday sun".  I should point out that I used to be a bit of an anglophile.  Not so much now.

    Japan, and many....

ON that occasion (as brian said)because she is not A father, of course, (al)though she is a mother.

is my text correct, or not?(también podés decir whether my text is correct or not)

you can say sneakers or a pair of sneakers.... it depends on what you are emphasizing or what you want to say...

Muy bien, Antu! Te felicito! preparate con el inglés también! jejeje and what happened with our travel to London?? =/

    Brian's last comment was great!
