Course Updates

We redesigned a number of pages to make our courses simpler and easier to navigate, and we’ve combined the Listen, Read, and Magnet exercises into a cool new exercise called Review. But don’t worry: if you miss your old exercises or just want a little more practice, you can find the Listen, Read, and Magnet exercises and a lesson-specific quiz in the Additional Practice section.

Points and Progress

We have not erased or changed any of your Course progress: You may notice that your progress bars may have changed slightly and that you no longer see Course Points listed. Since we changed the number of exercises within each lesson—replacing the Read, Listen, and Magnet exercises with the single Review exercise—the percent of the lesson you have completed may be different.

Your course progress is now measured with Mochapoints: Your points will also look different than they did before, but you are given credit for your course progress just like your other activity on Livemocha. Your Mochapoints reflect how much work you have completed in each course and how well you have done on your exercises. Your score on specific exercises and overall lessons will be reflected in the percentages listed at the end of each exercise, on the Course Home page under the icon for each exercise, and on the “Course Accuracy” (% Correct) section of the My Courses page.

Lesson Structure

The lessons are now comprised of the Learn exercise, the Review exercise (a randomized mix of Read, Listen, and Magnet questions), and Speaking and Writing exercises where they apply. If you would like extra practice, you can take any of the “Additional Practice” exercises, which include the Read, Listen, and Magnet exercises for each word or phrase in the lesson. The Additional Practice section also includes a flashcard quiz of the lesson. You can retake the Additional Practice exercises as many times as you want, which will update your Course Accuracy (% Correct), but will not affect your Course Progress.
