Click on Get Started. On the Registration page, please be sure to submit a valid email address so that you receive a verification email from Livemocha.
You will recieve an e-mail to activate your account. Check your e-mail inbox or junk mail folder to make sure that the e-mail was not filtered. If the problem persists, activate your account here.
Click on Login page.
Reset your password here if you forgot it. Enter the email address associated with your Livemocha account. An email will be sent to that address. Click the link in the verification email to reset your password.
On the top toolbar, you will find 4 main tabs:
Home: Allows you to track your progress, communicate with friends, plan your lessons and navigate through your language-learning experience.
Learn: Language learning curriculum and interactive community exercises allow you to develop foreign language skills with all the nuances of a native speaker.
Practice: Real time text, audio or video conversations as well as submitted written and speaking exercises allow you to improve every aspect of your language skills.
Share: Help create a community through real-time conversation and by giving and receiving feedback on recorded and written submissions.
Your profile is a way for people in the community to get to know you a little bit better.
Click on Home tab. From your homepage, click Edit Profile and select the basic tab.
From basic page you can edit your profile basic information.

From your homepage, select online status from drop down menu at the top right.

From your homepage, click Edit Profile and select the basic tab. From basic page you can upload your picture. Make sure the image you are attempting to upload is in one of the formats LiveMocha accepts (.gif, .jpg). Make sure the filename is simple and short, with no spaces or funny characters. "Image.jpg" is a good filename. Make sure the file is less than 4MB. We do not allow images over 4MB.
Click on Home tab.
From your homepage, click Edit Profile and select the basic tab. From basic page you can edit languages you know and learning.

From your homepage, click Edit Profile and select the contact tab. From contact page you can edit your e-mail.

Many languages do not use the Roman orthography, or system of lettering. To study these languages on Livemocha you will need to enable complex scripts in your browser. To enable complex scripts:
- On all Windows machines: go to Start -> Control Panel -> Regional Options -> Languages and check the option 'Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages.' Click 'OK' to confirm and insert your Windows CD if necessary.
- In Firefox: from the Tools menu, select Contents -> Languages -> Choose... and add the language(s) you're learning from the list which appears.
- In Internet Explorer: from the Tools menu, select Internet Options -> General -> Languages and add the language(s) you're learning from the list which appears.
- Restart your browser and/or computer if prompted to do so.
Flashcards are a fun and easy way to review lesson content.
Creating a Set:
First you must select the Learn tab, and then select a lesson type Learn.
From here, you can see the pictures in the center of the screen, in the bottom left will be a icon. Select this icon, and it will open a menu with two sides of a flashcard. From the drop down menu, select a set and pick Add a Flashcard Set. Title your set, fill out the fields, pick the front and back language and click submit. Once you've created a set, you can add as many flashcards to it within your lesson.
Creating a Flashcard:
Click the Flashcard icon located under the picture in the Learn section of a Lesson. Flashcard will appear in the popup, with the word on the page automatically added to the flashcard. You can edit the front and back of the Flash card. When you're happy with your card, save it to the set you want and click submit.
Review Flashcards:
In Learn tab, go to and select My Flashcard Sets.
Click the magnifying glass icon to cycle through the cards in a set.
Delete Flashcards:
In Learn tab, go to and select My Flashcard Sets.
Click the minus icon to cycle through the cards in a set.

The Extra Practice section will help your vocabulary, pronunciation and language retention.
You can practice by yourself by submitting a written or recorded response or practice with a friend or community member.
Dialog
Select the language you are learning from the Dialog page and review the sample dialogs to prepare for real conversation.
You can also practice dialogues while engaged in Chat.
In the lower right side of the chat is a section called "Conversation Scenarios".
From the drop-down menus, select the desired language and the desired dialogue.
Ask your friend to view the same dialogue, and role-play with them to your heart's content!
Speaking
Make sure your microphone is turned on. Select one of the topics for a practice. Read out loud and Record the text When you are done recording, click Submit button. You can select a friend to review or eventually a native speaker in the community will review it.
Writing
Select one of the topics for a practice. You will be given a space where you can type out your answer to the best of your ability. When you are done writing, click Submit button. You can select a friend to review or eventually a native speaker in the community will review it.
Click on Learn tab.
From Learn page, click My Courses.
Click on Course Home of the course you want to quit. Under Course Management click on Quit Course.
To send a message, hover over user's profile picture or click on user's profile.
Click Send Message 
To view your inbox and sent messages, click Messages from your homepage.
Invite friends:
Click on Invite on the top right corner. Invite your friends individually or import your e-mail address to invite multiple friends.

We match users who are learning and speaking the languages that are of interest to you.
To manually search, click Search to look for people based on user name, language speaking and learning. Click on their name or their profile picture to learn more about them.
Advanced Search offers more search options.
You can choose to Send Message or Send Chat Invite to start talking.
Review other user's submissions and give them feedback on their work.
Add friend:
Go to a user's profile and click Add Friend 
View your friends:
Go to your homepage and a list of your friends will appear under the header Friends. Click more to see everyone on your list.
Remove a friend:
To remove your friend, click Remove Friend
This section allows you to keep track of all the different activities on Livemocha. Each section provides information about the following:
Summary: Friend requests, friends' achievements, and comments left on your submissions.
Mine: Your own friend requests, finished courses, and messages.
Friends: Information about friends' exercises, updated profiles, and friendships.
All: A condensed version of all the information you can find under all the tabs.
Hover over a user's profile picture or click on user's profile. Click Send Chat Invite to start talking. You have to type something first for a user to get a chat popup. To use your microphone and/or webcam, click send a/v (under Send). Use the Virtual Keyboard to type special characters in the text box. Use the Phrase Translator to look up vocabulary words. Practice a conversation by using the Conversation Scenarios. Note: You may experience issues with chat due to security firewalls.
You can offer feedback on Speaking and Writing exercises for other language learners in the community.
Click on Share tab. Select the language you want to tutor from the dropdown menu. Choose Speaking or Writing. To offer feedback, provide a Rating (1-5 scale) and leave comments based on grammar, word choice, appropriateness of topic, spelling, pronunciation, or anything else you think is important to mention.
The Top Commenters receive achievement awards on a weekly basis to highlight their contributions to the community.

Currently, members of our community are actively participating in translating our lessons to new languages, which we'll eventually publish access to even more languages!
You earn Mochapoints by completing any combination of actions on our site. The number of points you gain depends on the actions you take. You earn more points if the community rates your contributions highly.
