Livemocha Point System and Medals
What are Mochapoints and how do I earn them?
To encourage our members to contribute and reward high quality contributions and interactions, Livemocha has introduced a system of Points and Levels. You earn Mochapoints by completing any combination of actions on our site. The number of points you gain depends on the actions you take. You earn more points if the community rates your contributions highly.
Mochapoints are awarded on Livemocha as a student learning a new language and as a teacher sharing your knowledge with others.
To earn Mochapoints complete any of the following:
Student Points:
You earn Student points by completing actions that are related to your coursework and lessons.
- Coursework: Complete lessons in the courses you've enrolled in.
- Writing Submissions: Complete writing submissions in your courses or from the Practice tab under Writing.
- Speaking Submissions: Complete speaking submissions in your courses or from the Practice tab under Speaking.
Teacher Score:
Your teacher score is based on the number of contributions you complete using your native language to help other community members. You also earn Mochapoints for these contributions. The following are listed by highest to lowest Mochapoint reward:
- Text Submission Comments: Review a student's submission by adding a text comment.
- Audio Submission Comments: Review a student's submission by adding an audio comment.
- Featured Tips: Add a featured tip in the Learn section of a lesson.
- Translations: Add a member translation in the Learn section of a lesson.
- Vote on Translations: Vote on a member translation.
- First to Review: Be the first to review a Submission.
Other Contributions:
These contribution types don't fit as either student or teacher points and generally earn you less Mochapoints. The following are ranked by highest to lowest Mochapoint reward:
- Member Favorites your Flashcard Set (Limit 30 times): Have your Flashcard set favorited by another member.
- Complete a flashcard quiz: Complete a flashcard quiz.
- Create a Flashcard set: Create a flashcard set.
- Chat: Complete a 5 minute or longer chat session with another member.
Please note that all decisions as to how and whether points are to be awarded are determined by Livemocha in its sole discretion. Livemocha reserves the right to remove or adjust points awarded to anyone and to modify or discontinue the point system at any time in its sole discretion with or without notice.
What are Medals and how do I earn them?
Once you've earned a certain amount of Mochapoints you can earn Medals.
These Medals are used to easily determine a user's overall value to the Livemocha community.
You can earn 3 levels of Medals based on your activity using the intertanionally recognized award levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.

What happened to my existing Member Points?
Don't worry, we've taken your existing Member points and rolled them into Mochapoints. From now on, you will earn Mochapoints instead of Member Points. We think you'll find they are much more rewarding to track your progress on Livemocha.
Why do I already have Mochapoints?
If you are an existing Livemocha member, all of your actions and contributions have automatically been converted to Mochapoints.
