When you use the articles you should remember that for female names you always use "una"; if the name begins with a vocal, then you can remove the -a and add an ' For male names, you have both "uno" and "un"; so, when you have a male name that begins with a vocal, you must use "un" without apostrophe. No, insegnante is a word which is the same both for males and females; but "un" is only for males. So, in this case you are talking about a man and "insegnante" is a male noun and you must say "un insegnante". When you talk about a woman, "insegnante" is female and you must use "un'insegnante".
