Michael Schutzler, CEO and Chief Barista

Michael Schutzler is chief executive officer of Livemocha, where he brings 25 years of leadership and brand building for some of the world’s most recognized consumer facing properties including Monster.com, Real Networks and Classmates.com.

Prior to LiveMocha, Schutzler led an executive coaching firm called CEOSherpa, where he helped small to mid-sized organizations capitalize on market opportunities, build strong executive teams and develop successful financing strategies. He also served as senior vice president at RealNetworks, leading the worldwide games, global marketing, advertising and sales divisions. During his tenure, Schutzler expanded the casual games business into an international operation, growing revenues in excess of $100 million and establishing the company as a dominant player in the online gaming world. As senior vice president at Monster.com during its peak, he led product development, online marketing and consumer products for the company’s billion-dollar business. Before his roles at Monster.com and RealNetworks, Schutzler served as CEO of Classmates.com, the service often recognized as one of the first social networking sites. He led the company from a small, struggling start-up to a nationally recognized brand and category owner. Classmates.com was acquired by United Online in 2004 for $150M.

Schutzler is a highly respected strategist and leadership coach for CEOs, executives, and board members around the world. In addition to authoring an acclaimed book on leadership titled Inspiring Excellence, he has served as an angel investor for more than a dozen Internet and technology companies. Schutzler holds an MBA in Finance and Economics and a BS in Electrical Engineering.




Shirish Nadkarni, Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Roaster

Shirish Nadkarni is a successful entrepreneur who is passionate about building great consumer services. As founder and CEO of TeamOn Systems , Shirish led a team that built a unique consumer wireless e-mail platform that is in use today by over 2 million BlackBerry users. TeamOn Systems was acquired by RIM in 2002 for its innovative work which formed the basis for RIM's highly successful launch into the consumer space as the BlackBerry Internet E-mail service.

Prior to RIM and TeamOn Systems, Shirish was a senior executive at MSN where he successfully drove the product and business strategy that catapulted MSN.com from ninth place to among the Web's top three portal sites. While at MSN, he personally orchestrated the acquisition of Hotmail and partnership with Inktomi Corporation to jump start Microsoft's entry into the two largest internet application categories - E-mail and Search respectively.

Shirish holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BSE from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Besides work, Shirish loves to hold pancake breakfasts and barbeques for his co-workers and is known to have a wicked top spin in ping-pong.

Krishnan Seshadrinathan, VP Engineering, and Chief Brewer

Prior to LiveMocha, Krishnan was Director of Development at Motive, Inc, a highly successful Austin based technology startup that delivers software used by many of the world's leading broadband providers including AT&T, Bell Canada, British Telecom, Verizon.

He was an early member of the Motive team and played an instrumental role in building products that have over 40 million users. In addition, Krishnan's team built innovative technologies that dramatically simplified home broadband services, and enabled broadband providers to manage new data, voice services effectively. Krishnan knows how to build and grow successful development teams - he later started Motive's India office and grew it to a team of over 50 employees in less than 18 months.

Krishnan has a B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT, Bombay and Masters from University of Texas, Austin.

Clint Schmidt, VP Marketing & Product y soña sobre café con leche

Clint is an expert in consumer Internet businesses, with impressive success in Marketing and Product functions with a variety of high-growth Internet companies.

Clint directed the online marketing function at Half.com, building a massive customer base that led to Half.com's acquisition by eBay. While at eBay, Clint managed strategic partnerships and ran eBay's Affiliate Program. More recently, Clint directed the E-commerce business at 1-800-CONTACTS, the World's Largest Contact Lens Store, and was Chief Marketing Officer of ZoomIn.com, India's leading photo sharing and printing site. Clint also built his own marketing consulting practice, and spent 8 months traveling the globe, developing a love of language learning and coffee from around the world!

Clint has a BSE in Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Amy Errett, Maveron

Amy Errett is a partner at Maveron where her focus has been on emerging Web enabled consumer trends, e-commerce social shopping, and online education. Amy currently serves on the Altius Education, Livemocha and KidZui boards of directors.

Most recently, she was chief executive officer and an owner of Olivia and grew the company to over $25 million in 2007. In 2006, she was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Northern California. Prior to her work at Olivia in 2002, she founded and served as chair and chief executive officer of The Spectrem Group and later part of the senior management team at E*Trade where she ran a $200 million business that encompassed the management of E*Trade’s growth areas.

Amy is the chair of the board of Glide Foundation, San Francisco’s largest nongovernmental, direct social services organization. Amy is also a member of San Francisco’s Barbary Coast chapter of YPO and serves on the board of Wharton West. A New York native, Amy earned an MBA in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in liberal arts from the University of Connecticut. She is a fanatical UCONN Huskies fan where she was a student athlete.



Howard Hartenbaum, August Capital

Howard Hartenbaum joined August Capital in 2008. Prior to joining, he served as a General Partner at Draper Richards LP where he was the founding investor in Skype and a former member of the board of directors where his achievement resulted in his joining the Forbes Midas List of top venture capitalists.

Before entering the venture capital field, Howard was at Hughes Electronics, where he was responsible for supporting business development, marketing and sales of satellite, information security and automotive technologies developed by HRL Laboratories. He also worked in engineering positions in ergonomics and user experience at Honda Motor Company and manufacturing at Teledyne Relays.

Howard has worked overseas for a total of ten years in Luxembourg and Japan. He is a graduate of M.I.T.

His investments include: Pixazza, Swoopo, Skype (acquired by eBay – EBAY), Photobucket (acquired by Fox Interactive Media – NWS), Bebo (acquired by AOL – TWX) and Netkraft (acquired by Adea Solutions)



Lisa Sharples, CEO, Allrecipies.com
Prior to joining Allrecipes.com, Lisa held the position of Senior Vice President of Marketing at Classmates.com, a division of United Online (UNTD). In this capacity, she helped define Classmate.com’s business strategy for all product development, marketing, creative design, customer retention, and customer service while leading a sizeable team.

Prior to Classmates.com, Lisa co-founded Garden.com (GDEN) in 1995, where she served as Chief Marketing & Merchandising Officer and a member of the Board of Directors for six years.

Her other business experience includes overseeing ArtCarved, the flagship retail jewelry brand at American Achievement Corporation, from 2003 to 2005, and, earlier, working for Silicon Graphics, Sun Microsystems and Standish Mellon Asset Management.

Lisa holds a B.A. from Bowdoin College in Biochemistry and Photography and MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

When not at work, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family, photography and gardening.

Dr. Paul Aoki, Director, Language Learning Center, University of Washington

Paul has been the Director of the Language Learning Center since 1984. He received his degrees in Linguistics (Ph.D. and M.A.) and Germanics (B.A.) from the University of Washington.

He is active in developing electronic media for language learning. He has worked with Microsoft, Apple Computer, the Department of Defense, and others to develop CD-ROMs and to digitized audio.

His wide range of interests is reflected in his membership in several professional organizations like American Association for Artificial Intelligence, Association for Computational Linguistics, Computer-Assisted Learning & Instruction Consortium, International Association of Learning Laboratories, Cognitive Sciences Society, American Translators Association, Northwest Translators and Interpreters Society.



Dr. Carol A. Chapelle, Professor of TESL/applied linguistics, Co-Editor of Cambridge Applied Linguistics Series

Carol A. Chapelle, Professor of TESL/applied linguistics, is Co-Editor of the Cambridge Applied Linguistics Series. Her research explores issues at the intersection of computer technology and applied linguistics. Recent books are Computer applications in second language acquisition: Foundations for teaching, testing, and research (Cambridge University Press, 2001) and English language learning and technology: Lectures on applied linguistics in the age of information and communication technology ( John Benjamins, 2003). Other books focus on language assessment and research methods. Her most recent books are Building a validity argument for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (Routledge, 2007) and Tips for teaching with CALL (Pearson-Longman, 2008).

She is Past President of the American Association for Applied Linguistics (2006-2007) and former editor of TESOL Quarterly (1999-2004), Her papers have appeared in journals such as TESOL Quarterly, Language Learning, Language Testing, and Language Learning & Technology, as well as in Handbooks and Encyclopedias of Applied Linguistics.

She teaches courses in applied linguistics at Iowa State University and has taught in Arizona, Denmark, Hawai'i, Michigan, Spain, and Canada. She has lectured at conferences in Canada, Chile, England, France, Japan, Iceland, Mexico, Morocco, Scotland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, and Taiwan



Dr. Geri Gay, Chair of Communication, Cornell University

Dr. Geri Gay is the Kenneth J. Bissett Professor and Chair of Communication at Cornell University and a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow. She is also a member of the Faculty of Computer and Information Science and the director of the Human Computer Interaction Lab at Cornell University. Her research focuses on social and technical issues in the design of interactive communication technologies. Specifically, she is interested in social navigation, affective computing, social networking, mobile computing, and design theory.

Professor Gay has received funding for her research and design projects from NSF, NASA, the Mellon Foundation, Intel, Google, Microsoft, NIH, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, AT&T Foundation, and several private donors. She teaches courses in interactive multimedia design and research, computer-mediated communication, human-computer interaction, and the social design of communication systems.

Recently, she has published in IEEE, International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Journal of Communication, CHI, HICCS, ACM Digital Libraries, SIGIR, JASIST, and CSCW.



Jeff Dossett - CEO, AdventureLink

Prior to joining AdventureLink, Jeff Dossett was Senior Vice President, Audience Experiences for Yahoo! North America. In this role Dossett was responsible for editorial, content and programming of all consumer "touch-points" in the United States and Canada. Dossett joined Yahoo! from Microsoft Corporation where he was executive producer and general manager of the MSN Media Network in the United States.

Dossett joined Microsoft in 1991 and served in a variety of senior sales and marketing roles. In 2000, Dossett joined MSN to provide strategy and business development leadership for Microsoft’s leading e-commerce services. He then served as Chairman & CEO of MSN Carpoint® (now MSN Autos), DealerPoint® and general manager of MSN HomeAdvisor® (now MSN Real Estate & MSN Lifestyle).

In 2002, Dossett took two years away with a goal to climb the highest mountain on each of the seven continents, known as the “Seven Summits�. Reaching the summit of Mount Everest on May 24, 2004, Dossett became the third Canadian in history to successfully complete the Seven Summits.

Dossett holds a degree in business administration with honors from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario in Canada




David Rinn, The Generations Network

David is the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development of The Generations Network - world's largest genealogy site.

Prior to this role, he served as the Chief Financial Officer of The Generations Network from 2004 to 2009, where he was responsible for corporate accounting, financial systems, reporting, budgeting and financial planning, audit, tax, M&A activity, and funding relationships.

David comes to The Generations Network after more than eleven years at Microsoft Corporation , where he was most recently CFO of the Mobile and Embedded Devices Business Group. Previous roles at Microsoft included general manager of Finance and Administration, CFO of HomeAdvisor Technologies , senior director of Product Group Finance, and senior director of business development and investments. Earlier in his career, David worked in the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley.

David holds an MBA from The Anderson School at UCLA and a BA in Geology from Vassar College in New York .



Raghav Kher, Serial Entreprenuer

Raghav loves to watch movies and brew new startups. Apart from providing strategic advice to LiveMocha, he was also the founder and CEO of Seventymm, India's Largest Movie Rental Service. Under his leadership, Seventymm has raised over $20 million from top-tier VCs, including Draper Fischer Jurveston, Matrix India Partners and ePlanet Ventures.

Raising funds and starting winning ventures is not new to Raghav, who thrives on Risky Business. In 2002, he founded Rendition Networks, assuming the critical role of CEO. Rendition received top-tier VC support from Ignition Partners, Madrona Ventures and others. Under his leadership, Rendition pioneered and created a brand new software product category called Configuration Control. Their product "TrueControl" won several prestigious awards from Computer World, Network World, Network Computing, Eweek and InfoWorld. Within its first year of business, Rendition won business with 25 Fortune-500 accounts, including Wells Fargo, T-Mobile, JP Morgan Chase, Countrywide Financial, Microsoft and Fidelity. In February 2005, just three years after its creation, Rendition was acquired by Opsware Inc. for $40 million.

Previously, Raghav held various executive positions at Microsoft for over eight years. He attended the School of Rock , but prefers to talk about his MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; a seldom used MS in Mechanical Engineering, and another MS in Computer Science from University of Missouri-Rolla.
