Having Trouble Downloading?
A number of issues such as anti-virus programs, firewalls, or your browser settings can prevent a download from completing successfully. Here is a list of common modifications to your system settings that may solve your downloading problems. For specific details about how to adjust your settings, please refer to your system or browser documentation.
- Adjust your pop-up blocker: If you have a pop up blocker enabled that prevents any external windows from opening up in your browser, your Livemocha MP3 download may not be able to open and process itself. Go into your browser settings and adjust them to allow pop-up windows from Livemocha.com.
- Briefly disable anti-virus programs: Certain anti-virus programs like Norton and McAfee can sometimes prevent your downloads from successfully completing. If one of these programs is installed on your computer and you are unable to download a Livemocha MP3, temporarily disable your antivirus program. When your file has finished downloading, re-enable the antivirus software.
- Enable downloads from Livemocha.com: If you are currently limiting your download capabilities to a specified list of sites, you will need to add Livemocha.com to your list of trusted sites. You might also need to manually allow downloads from Livemocha.com if your browser displays a security warning.
- Adjust or eliminate firewall settings: You may need to adjust the firewall on your computer system to allow Livemocha's downloader to access the Internet.
- Enable download notifications: Sometimes your browser's security setting may be blocking your download attempts without giving you any notification or error messages. If this is the case, you will not see any reason why your download continues to fail. Check your browser settings to make sure none of the issues mentioned above are occurring and make sure that notifications are enabled so that you can tell if your browser is blocking downloads.
-
Internet Explorer issues: If you are still having problems downloading your Livemocha MP3 and are using Internet Explorer versions 6 or 7, you should follow these steps to adjust your browser's security setting:
- Select the Tools menu (a file option in IE 6, a button in IE 7)
- Click on Internet Options and then on the Security tab
- Click the Custom Level button and go to the Download section
- Click the Okay button on the Security Settings and Internet Options screens to save your changes.

Saving Your Content
Your browser will determine the process with which your download saves to your system and opens. For most browsers, when you download a file, a dialog box will pop up and will ask you if you want to run or save the file. The “run” option will open the file in whatever program is selected as default for that type of file, but will sometimes save the file in only a temporary location. We suggest always selection the “save” option and then choosing an easy-to-remember location of your choice.
Most computer's default save location will be its “My Documents” folder, though you can easily change that location. If you have already downloaded your file and don't know where your file is, follow these simple steps to determine where your computer is saving your downloaded files:
- Start a new file download. It can be the same download or another one.
- When your dialog box pops up asking if you would rather run or save the file, choose the “save” option.
- When the save window opens, it will open directly to the download location your computer has been sending files to. Look at the folder name in the top middle of the save window to find the location.
Opening Your MP3 or Video
Each lesson's MP3s will download as a Zip file, which is a compressed folder that contains a number of individual files. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows XP, your operating system has built-in support for Zip files. To unzip your files on either of these operating systems, right click on the zip file and select "extract all". Click "next", and select the location where you want to save your files, then click "okay" and then "next". Check the "show extracted files" options, and click "finish", to view your files.
If you are using another Windows operating system (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, etc), you will need to install a special application to open zip files. WinZip is a free unzipping application that works well with most Windows machines. You can download WinZip at www.winzip.com.
If you are using a Mac that has OS X or above, you should be able to automatically unzip files. Open "finder", and navigate to the Zip file you want to open. Double click on the file, and the files contained within the zip file will automatically be unzipped into the same folder as your original zip file.
Your Livemocha MP3s are built in a standard format that is compatible with most hand-held music devices, media players, and some CD and DVD players. You will need a media player installed on your computer in order to open your Livemocha MP3s.
Each lesson's video will download as an MPEG video file.
The most common media players are Windows Media Player and Apple ITunes, both of which are compatible with PCs and Macs and can be easily downloaded from the Internet. There are a number of other media players available on the Internet; make sure to check with each player's software vendor for specific information about system and format compatibility.
