La femme est terne ?? Probably a translation of "dull". In that case, EITHER : triste, peu interessante, ennuyeuse, OR peu intelligente
"Dull" is usually translated by "terne" when it qualifies a colour (une couleur terne), a style (un style terne), a surface (une surface terne/mate)
"au sens figuratif" ?? You probably mean that it can be used "au sens figuré"?
In that case, excuse my error. I naively believed I was correcting an exercise for beginners when, actually, I was reading a literary work.
